Unicol
The bacterial cell membrane is the initial site of action for colistin. Colistin binds toLPSs and phospholipids in the outer cell membrane of Gram-negative bacteria.Colistin is an antibiotic from the group of polymyxins with a bactericidal action againstGram-negative bacteria like E. coli, Haemophilus and Salmonella. It is indicated forgastrointestinal infections caused by colistin sensitive bacteria in calves, goats, poultry, and sheep. Colistin concentrates in the intestinal tract hence it maintains itspotency in this tract even in the presence of food, digestive ferments, enzymes, andnecrotic tissues.
