Florfenicol inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and is generally considered to be bacteriostatic of susceptible bacteria, leading to the inhibition of peptidyl transferase and thereby preventing the transfer of amino acids to extend peptide chains and subsequent protein formation.Treatment of gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections caused by florfenicol sensitivemicroorganisms such as Actinobaccillus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp. andStreptococcus spp. in poultry.
